Type Locality and Naming

The type section is established on the basis of material from borehole 12 at a depth of 198-235 m, situated near the Dong Diem Canal, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City (E = 10°42’; E = 106°45’). It was named by

Synonym: Hệ tầng Nhà Bè: Bùi Phú Mỹ, Trịnh Dánh (in Trịnh Dánh 1985); Bùi Phú Mỹ 1992; Trinh Dánh 1993, (in Vũ Khúc et al.) 2000; Nguyền Ngọc Hoa et al. 1996.


Lithology and Thickness

Conglomerate to Siltstone: (1). White-grey conglomerate and sandstone, about 20 m thick. (2). White-grcy to brown-grey sandstone and siltstone, 17 m thick. The total thickness of the formation in this section is 37 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformably rests upon the Binh Trung Fm

Upper contact

Conformably underlies the Ba Mieu Fm

Regional extent

The Nha Be Fm occurring in the East Nam Bo region has been found only in boreholes.

Fossils

The Dalbergia Assemblage (D. beíỉa, D. cf. rectinervis, Pistacia donzaoensis, etc.) and sporomorphs with the following characteristic forms: Cystopteris sp., Polypodiaceae gen. indet., Gỉeichenia sp., Ginkgo sp., Castanópsis sp., Rubiaceae gen. indet., Rhizophora sp., Sabai sp., Calamus sp., etc.
